چکیده

This article is concerned with the multicast problem in which many destinations simutaneously request mutiple data streams from a source, and require them to be delivered reliably and in minimum hop distance. The basic idea is to induce a sub-graph from a given network using the breadth-first-search principle, and then based on this sub-graph, to construct the minimum hop-count multicast tree. After that, a bandwidth assignment algorithm and a level-by-level acknowledgment method are employed to enforce the reliable, concurrent delivery of the multiple streams. It is shown, through analysis and simulations on a class of random graphs, that our approach significantly reduces the number of transmissions and average packet delay.

Benchmarks and Tradeoffs for Minimum Hop, Minimum Edge and Maximum Lifetime per Multicast Tree in Mobile Ad hoc Networks

The high-level contribution of this paper is to establish benchmarks for the minimum hop count per source-receiver path, minimum number of edges per tree and maximum tree lifetime for multicast routing in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) and explore the tradeoffs between these three metrics. Accordingly, we consider three categories of algorithms – Breadth First Search (for minimum hop trees), m...

DINCast: a hop efficient dynamic multicast infrastructure for P2P computing

Efficient communications among computers participating in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) computing remains a problem when they are geographically distributed across multiple network domains. In this paper, we propose DINCast to support group communications required in P2P computing. DINCast is built on top of an existing P2P multicast tree and results in a hop efficient dynamic multicast infrastructure. We...

A distributed energy efficient multicast routing algorithm for WANETs

It is essential to maximize the lifetime of a given multicast tree, in order to keep the nodes active as long as possible in wireless ad hoc networks (WANETs). Due to the impact of hop count on energy efficiency, any efficient routing protocol for WANETs should have low hop count. However, the problem of generating the optimized energy efficient routing protocol for WANETs is NP-hard. Any worka...
